About the Project

The Giffen Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Giffen name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Giffen name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Giffens), by time period (18th Century Giffens), or by topic (Giffen DNA, Giffen Occupations, Giffen Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Task List

1. Add the Category to Profiles

If you are a Giffen/Giffin or are the profile manager of any of those profiles, please add [[Category:Giffen Name Study]] to those profiles. Do not place the category on the spouse of a Giffen, but do place it on the children with the surname Giffen. The One Name Studies Project has requested that the Name Study template be replaced with the Category on all profiles in a name study, except for profiles that are essential to the project. Given that, if you have a Frazier Name Study nameplate on a profile, please replace it with Category:Giffen Name Study, unless the profile is of an immigrant to the New World.

2. Create Subcategories

Create subcategories based on where a person is born and where they lived and add profiles to those subcategories. When you are working on your profiles, feel free to add the state category in addition to the Giffen Name Study to those profiles. It will be in the format of [[Category:State, Giffen Name Study]]. If you know how to create categories, you may add additional state subcategories. If you have input, please leave a comment on this page or send the project manager a private message.
